Spring is approaching, and with spring comes our “Honey Do Lists!”

I attended a HOA meeting last week.  Officer Wing shared some useful tips on keeping safe when hiring contractors, and I wanted to pass it on.

He urged us to do our homework to verify individuals before hiring someone and inviting them into our homes or onto our property.

There are several ways to do this, and a public site he shared with us is listed below:

Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office: http://mecksheriffweb.mecklenburgcountync.gov/Arrest

3rd Party Sites include:

Below “NC COURT SEARCH” enter the person’s full name in the “Google CUSTOM SEARCH” field. Scroll down below the advertisements and look for any results that may appear.

If you live outside of the Mecklenburg county area, your local sheriff’s department may have a similar link to check.

There are a lot of contractors or handymen/women out there that have integrity, good work ethics, and do a great job.  Unfortunately as in all aspects of life, there are the few that would take advantage of you.

Spring is almost upon us, and the project lists are growing in my household.  As you obtain your quotes, make part of your research verification, check references, and include checking the Better Business Bureau.

Be safe as you begin your planning, and Happy Spring!
